College Football , Video tyduffy November 20th. 2010, 3:15pm This rivalry is intense. Well, it’s as intense as people who need to be articulately persuaded to put down their calculators, bongs and Russian novels to attend a football game can get. Stanford is far better on paper, though don’t discount Cal. Jeff Tedford has won seven of eight against the Cardinal, including last year’s big game in Palo Alto. Cal is also playing at home where in five games they nearly knocked off Oregon and outscored other opponents 189-34. How can Stanford avoid the upset? Two ways. First, they should load up on Shane Vereen to force the responsibility onto backup quarterback Brock Mansion. Second, they need a consistent, cohesive offensive line performance against Cal’s often confusing pass rush. Stanford takes the axe in a close one. Both teams frustrate. The Buckeyes, however talented, only assert themselves against mediocre to poor opposition. Iowa executes extremely well, except in the fourth quarter and on third downs and crucial situations. Ohio State has a slight edge on paper. Iowa nixes it with the home field advantage. I’d make Ohio State slight favorites. They have won 11/12 against the Hawkeyes. They have more explosive skill players. Iowa’s vaunted defensive line hasn’t been the force many expected. That said, if there’s one thing God likes it’s good, red-blooded ‘Mericans. Advantage Stanzi. A win would keep Ohio State’s Rose Bowl hopes alive, though it doesn’t look like Wisconsin will be derailed. Leave a Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
